Creating a Persistent Link

When you access an electronic resource from the library, the URL that appears in the address box of your browser may not be valid at a later time; so copying and pasting this URL into your own Web page or Canvas assignment may create problems. A persistent link (also called a persistent URL or permalink) is a stable URL that links directly to an electronic library resource; a persistent link to an article in a database will bypass the need to search the database to find it again.

A proxy prefix is a string of text that must be added to the beginning of a resource's persistent URL in order to permit access to the article from off-campus. It redirects a URL to an authentication page where off-campus users enter their MEID and password to gain access to the resource. If a resource’s persistent link does not already include a proxy prefix, you must add the default SCC Library proxy prefix,
