Instruction Requests
Library Instruction
The Library's instruction sessions can help your students acquire the necessary skills to find and use information to complete assignments and research regardless of the subject matter. These skills will help students whether they are required to write a paper, speech, create a presentation, or just learn about a topic.
To schedule an instruction session, please complete the online Library Instruction Request form.
Our sessions can cover:
*Topic Selection - includes background information and search strategies
*Reference Sources - includes print subject specific encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc.
*How to find a book in the MCCCD Libraries Catalog
*How to distinguish between scholarly and popular resources
*How to find magazine and scholarly journal articles
*How to find newspaper articles
*Web Searching - Search Engines & Subject Directories
*Evaluating quality on the Web
We can also tailor the session to your students' needs and assignment!
Please contact Jenny Vargas (jenny.vargas@sccmail.maricopa.edu or phone 3-6654) if you have any questions.
What faculty are saying
"That was super today - I will include this every summer when I teach
291. Thank you so much. Also...Just gotta tell you - as I walked back
to my classroom I was talking to a student who also goes to ASU. She
remarked that in less than a hour she got more information about how to
use databases from this session than she ever got at ASU!!!!!! Kuddos"
---Education Faculty
"Thanks so much for the productive research session you did for the ENG
101 students. Once again, the assignments the students turned in show
that those who attended were able to find quality research unlike those
who did not attend." - English Faculty
"I want to thank you for facilitating the visit of my class. Your input
and feedback on the development of our assignment was so beneficial and
the hands-on orientation of the Library resources was excellent. Thanks
for directing them to appropriate resources and providing them with
information to make important distinctions as they evaluate their
sources" --Counseling Faculty
