What is available to me at the SCC Library?
Books, videos, DVD's, audio cassettes, and CD's (through the library online catalog, requires a library card to check out)

Magazines, journals, newspapers, encyclopedia, images and ebooks. (online subscription databases, requires password)

How do I get a library card?
You may obtain a library card in person with a photo ID at the library. 

How do I get a password for the online magazines and e-books?
It is your campus network login unless the resource asks for your barcode which is the 13-digit library card number.

Usually, your username is the first letter of your first name, middle initial, and first six letters of your last name. If you did not register with your middle name, use your first initial and the first seven letters of your last name.

Example: John D. Doe=jddoe or Janet E. Johnson=jejohnso

Your password on your initial login is your student ID number. If you have changed your password, use your new password. If you have forgotten your password, contact the library staff at 480-423-6651 to have your password reset.

What kind of materials and how many items can I check out?
You may check out books, videos, audio cassettes, CD's, and DVDs, with up to 20 items checked out to your library account.

How long is the checkout period and how much are the overdue fines?

Format Loan Period Overdue Fines
Books 3 weeks $.10 per day
Reserve Materials variable $.50 per hour/day
Cassettes/CD's 3 weeks $.10 per day
Scultpture 1 month $.25 per day
Videos 1 week $.10 per day

  • Most materials are renewable in person, by phone (480-423-6651), or online.

Can I request library books and videos online?
Yes, you may request library books and videos by using the Request Item link in the Online Library Catalog.

Can I request materials that you do not have in the SCC Library?
Yes, you may request items from any of the other Maricopa Community College libraries through the online catalog. You have the option of requesting where you would prefer to pick up these books-at any of the community college libraries.

Interlibrary loan service is also available for books that are not owned by the Maricopa Community College Libraries. You may place your Interlibrary Loan request online. Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive the item you request through the Interlibrary Loan service.

Can library materials be mailed to me?
No, all items must be picked up in person.

Do I need to come to the library to return my materials?
You may return your library books and videos at the SCC Library Circulation Desk, or at the drop box which is located on the south side of the Library at the student drop off. You may also return books and videos at any of the Maricopa Community College Libraries or mail your materials back to the library.

What happens if I don't return my materials on time?
Overdue notices are sent out as a courtesy reminder. Please return materials by the due date.

Library materials that are not returned after 30 days are considered lost. Student records and grades will be placed on hold until the materials are returned or paid for.

Can a resident of the community obtain a library card?
Yes, residents of Maricopa County are eligible to receive a library card from the SCC Library. Community borrowers must be over 18 years of age. You must present a photo ID at the SCC Library Circulation Desk to obtain a library card.

What types of material can a community borrower check out?
Community borrowers may check out a maximum of 20 items for 21 days.

Can a community borrower request materials from other libraries?
Yes, community borrowers may request unrestricted items through the Maricopa Community College Libraries Online Catalog. Items may be picked up at the SCC Library .
